History

​

While its exact origins remain the subject of debate, the breed is strongly thought to originate in the mountainous 'Auvergne' region of France, which is where it gets its name. The Braque d’Auvergne (pron: brack-dough-vern) are one of the oldest known French hunting dogs; the breed has been a trusted companion to sportsmen for centuries, with references to black-and-white pointing dogs in the region dating back hundreds of years.

With their striking black and white or charbonne coats, gentle temperament, intelligence and exceptional hunting ability, they continue to be highly valued throughout France today.

In the UK

Although well established on the continent, the Braque d’Auvergne is a relatively recent arrival in the United Kingdom. The first dogs were imported by dedicated enthusiasts who recognised the breeds unique combination of natural working ability, trainability and affectionate nature.

​

Since gaining recognition by The Royal Kennel Club in 2016, interest in the breed has steadily grown with hundreds of owners (and counting!) enjoying the Braque d’Auvergne as a successful show dog, capable working gundog, a loyal family companion and much more...

We aim to  provide information, guidance and a welcoming community for owners, breeders and admirers alike. Our aim is to encourage responsible ownership, protect the future of the breed and celebrate everything that makes our dogs so special.
